NMMS offers private lessons in piano and music theory at our location in North Melbourne.
Piano lessons
Piano lessons are tailored towards students’ age, individual ways of learning and variety of style or genres of music they have inclination towards. NMMS offers piano lessons based on a structured and systematic progression of piano study, especially for those students preparing for the AMEB (Australian Music Examination Board) exams. The program is extensive and through a broad range of repertoire, prepares students to achieve artistic and technical goals. The special emphases is given to a development of aural and sight reading skills. At the moment, we offer a program for up to 5th grade exams.
Apart from offering students a wide range of attractive and fun music pieces to be explored and played, they are also encouraged to improvise and express their own music ideas with an aim to stimulate their imagination, release creative energy and fire up rhythmic vitality.
Early beginner’s piano program
Our main strength is in a piano program created for 4 to 6 year old children in order to introduce them to the magical world of sounds and music. It is important that the first piano lessons for a child be very inviting and playful, filled with physical activities and fun games which are all to be skillfully channeled into the understanding of basic music concepts.
The program is based on Kodaly and Orff approaches.
Our aim is to firstly create a joyous and magical connection to music and then expand it with a curious exploration of piano and its possibilities.
Music theory lessons
Music theory is a very important aspect of music education because it helps students to understand how all the elements of music work together. It is a recommended subject for students who are studying an instrument or singing, preparing for examinations or for those who want to become better musicians.
We based theory lessons program on a progressive course graded through a series of text and work books MASTER YOUR THEORY By D. Holland (Grades 1-7 ) and ESSENTIAL MUSIC THEORY by G D Spearritt (Grades 1-4).
